Two-Way Radio Warranty Explained

All manufacturers offer a warranty on the two-way radio equipment they provide. To be sure of the two-way radio warranty on offer, either check with the supplier or if buying online, check to see if they have detailed the warranty on offer in the product listing.

Two-way radio warranty is usually 12 to 24 months on the main item, such as the radio body only if it is a hand-portable two-way radio, and then typically 6 months on accessories.

Again it is worth checking as each brand can provide different warranty on their products.

Licence-Free Two-Way Radio Warranty Process

For nearly all licence-free two-way radio brands, the repairs process is an ‘in-house’ exchange at the approved warranty center. This only applies if the unit is within warranty. If the unit is out of warranty you would need to purchase replacement units.

Process Steps:

  1. Report the fault to the place of purchase (Company A)
  2. Company A will complete a warranty form and send it to the approved warranty center
  3. The warranty center then issues a warranty reference to Company A
  4. Depending on the policy at Company A, they may arrange the collection of the faulty unit(s) and send them to the warranty center free of charge or you may be required to pay for the delivery to the warranty center yourself

Note: unless requested to do so, only send the faulty item and not all of the accessories such as charger or earpiece.

  • Upon receipt to the two-way radio warranty center, the faulty unit with being checked to see if it is a manufacturer’s fault or if it is deemed to be a fault caused by misuse or negligence.
  • If it is a fault caused by misuse or negligence the faulty unit will be returned to you as is.
  • If it is a manufacturer fault covered by warranty, then a replacement unit will be sent back to you
  • The time taken to process the warranty claim is approximately 3 to 5 working days.

Note: If there is no replacement stock, Company A could be offered a warranty credit, at which point Company A could then offer you a credit or discuss an alternative solution.

Licenced Two-Way Radio Warranty Process

Licenced two-way radio warranty operates slightly differently in that the warranty is managed directly with the manufacturers via the supplier of the radio equipment. In addition, damage or faults not covered by the warranty can be repaired at the warranty centre.

Process Steps:

  1. Report the fault to the place of purchase (Company A)
  2. Company A will complete a manufacturer’s warranty form and send it to them.
  3. The manufacturer warranty center then issues a warranty reference to Company A
  4. Depending o the policy at Company A, they may arrange the collection of the faulty unit(s) and send them to the manufacturer warranty center free of charge or you may be required to pay for the delivery to the manufacturer warranty center yourself

Note: unless requested to do so, only send the faulty item and not all of the accessories such as charger or earpiece.

  • Upon receipt to the manufacturer warranty center, the faulty unit with being checked to see if it is a manufacturer’s fault or if it is deemed to be a fault caused by misuse or negligence.
  • If it is a fault caused by misuse or negligence the manufacturer will provide a quotation to Company A to repair the radio equipment

Note: You can approve the quote and they will repair the radio equipment or you can refuse and the radio equipment will be returned as-is.

  • If it is a manufacturer fault covered by warranty, then the radio equipment will be repaired at no cost to you.
  • The time taken to process the warranty claim is approximately 4 weeks. This can be up to 3 months depending on the manufacturer and the availability of spare parts. (The time taken will depend on the current global supply chain at the time of the warranty repair taking place)

Note: If the faulty item is out of warranty, then you can speak with Company A to see if they offer a two-way radio equipment repair service and get a quote from them or you can ask them to still send the item to the manufacturer for a repair quote from the manufacturer warranty center

Two-Way Radio Failures within 30 days of Purchase

If either a licence-free or licenced unit(s) has become faulty within 30 days of being purchased, then this would be an ‘out-of-box failure’ and a replacement unit(s) would be arranged on a swap-it service. This would involve collecting the faulty unit(s) at the same time as delivering the new one.
